Tickets for the Induction Ceremony are required, and may be purchased using this form.
The 2010 Inductees are:
Steve Carlson (1994 graduate of Pomona) - SWIMMING
– A four-year letterwinner, Carlson earned All-Conference
honors seven times – and was Conference Champ six times.
Carlson was SCIAC Champion four straight years in the 1650
freestyle, and SCIAC Champion in the 500 free in 1991 and 1993.
Carlson set multiple school records in the 1650 free through four
years, dropping the record from 16:36 to 16:11.21. In
addition, he set the 1000 free school record in 1991, and was a
member of the record-setting 400 Medley Relay in 1993. Carlson
served as team captain in his senior year. He qualified for
Nationals four straight years in the 1650 free, earning Honorable
Mention All American twice (12th in 1993 in 16:33.74 and 14th in
1994 in 16:14.52). In addition, Carlson earned Academic All
American four straight years, and was the Pomona-Pitzer Scholar
Athlete (all sports) as a senior in 1994. A Pomona Scholar during
his time at Pomona, Carlson was awarded the Backstrand prize, given
to the outstanding junior in Economics, and the Pendleton prize,
the economics department's highest honor. He was elected to Phi
Beta Kappa and graduated magna cum laude.
Eric Dugan (2000 graduate of Pitzer) - SOCCER – A
four-year letterwinner, Dugan earned the Team MVP honors each year
he played on the men's soccer squad. Dugan earned four straight
First Team All-SCIAC honors, and twice won SCIAC Player of the Year
honors as a junior and a senior. Dugan was awarded four straight
NSCAA All Far West First Team honors, plus he was twice named to
the NSCAA All American Team as a frosh and as a senior. In his
first year on the squad, Dugan helped lead the team to the SCIAC
Championships.
Kate (Hill) Barnett (2000 graduate of Pomona) TRACK AND
FIELD – During her four years, Barnett earned seven
All-Conference honors in three throwing events. Barnett was a
three-time National Qualifier in hammer, earning two All America
honors. She finished seventh as a junior and then took second as a
senior, throwing a personal best. On the all-time lists for
Pomona-Pitzer track and field history, Barnett stands at #2
for the hammer (168’8”), #5 for the discus
(126’2”), and #6 for the shot (36’10
¼”). A Team Captain as a senior, Barnett completed her
career as one of the best-ever all-around throwers for
Pomona-Pitzer.
Creed Pettit (1999 graduate of Pitzer) - FOOTBALL –
"Creed was the best Defensive Lineman I have ever coached, and he
led us in sacks during his time here." says Head Football Coach
Roger Caron. Pettit was a four year starter, and earned Second Team
All-SCIAC honors as frosh (then team left SCIAC), Pettit played on
the Defensive Line all four years. During his time, defensive stats
weren't kept, but he had at least ten quarterback sacks each
season, including seven in one game against cross-campus rival
Claremont-M-S. Pettit served as Team Captain his senior year.
According to Coach Caron, "Creed was a leader through his actions
on and off the field. His intensity during practice is what made
him such an effective player come Saturday. He was never afraid to
up the tempo in practice when needed, and we often had to ask him
to back off a bit so that we could snap the ball without the
quarterback getting crushed. He was impossible to block with only
one player. He put in his time in the off-season to become a more
effective athlete."
