The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens clinched their second SCIAC win Saturday dominating the Whittier Poets 10-3 before falling 9-0 in game two.
Whittier put one run on the board in the first, but Pomona-Pitzer responded quickly in the second inning. Kathryn Rabak (PO ’13) and Carolyn Cross (PO ’13) hit back-to-back singles to start the rally for the Sagehens. Brianna Marcantoni (PI ’12) followed with an RBI double to tie the game at one. The Sagehens went ahead when Cross scored on a groundout. In the third inning, Arianna Roach (PI ’12) and Alexis Garcia (PI ’11) both singled. Cross then singled to right scoring Roach. Garcia scored on a double steal of second and home, giving the Sagehens a 4-1 lead. Whittier closed the gap with a run in the bottom of the inning, but in the fourth the 'Hens picked up two more runs with RBI singles from Garcia and Rabak. In the fourth, the Poets scored again bringing the score to 6-3. A homer by Marcantoni in the fifth put Pomona-Pitzer up 7-3. With bases loaded in the seventh, Garcia singled up the middle to give the Sagehens a 9-3 lead. Ali Corley (PO ’11) then hit her own RBI single to put the Sagehens up 10-3. The Sagehens shut down the Poet offense in the bottom of the inning, taking the win, 10-3.
In game two, Whittier retaliated at the plate. Three Whittier home runs helped the Poets take the win, 9-0.
