Marich Named All-Region, Academic All-District
Claremont, Calif. - Senior midfielder Martha Marich (McLean, Va.) was named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-West Region first team, and was also chosen to the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District 8 team.
Marich led the Sagehens in virtually every major category this season, scoring 76 goals, while also compiling 96 draw controls, 53 ground balls and 39 caused turnovers. She finished her career with 331 goals, despite missing half of her junior year with a knee injury, including 113 as a sophomore in 2010, when she led the country.
Marich also graduated from Pomona with a degree in sociology, earning Academic All-District honors. She will now be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America honors, which will be announced in June.
The awards add to a long list of postseason honors for Marich, who was named the SCIAC Player of the Year in a vote of the league's coaches, and was also named the Pomona-Pitzer Outstanding Female Athlete at the year-end banquet in a vote of the athletic department's coaches.
Pomona-Pitzer Women's lacrosse finished the year with a 7-10 record despite a thin roster which resulted in playing several games without any available substitutes. Marich was also the only upperclassman on the team, as the 16-player roster included 10 freshmen and five sophomores.
The team reached the semifinals of the conference tournament with a 16-9 win over Whittier in the opening round and also led top-seeded Redlands at the half in the semis before falling 10-7.
