Jen Scanlon is in her ninth season as the head
coach of the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer program after joining the
Sagehens in the fall of 2003.
During her tenure, Scanlon has been honored as the Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Coach of the
Year, and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America
(NSCAA) West Region Coach of the Year. She guided the Sagehens to a
SCIAC championship and to the NCAA Division III Tournament
in 2005, while her 2004 team had the second-best won-loss
improvement in the nation.
Off the field, her Pomona-Pitzer teams have ranked in the top
three in the nation in team grade point average four times (with a
combined 3.55 or better), including three second-place
rankings.
Prior to coming to Pomona-Pitzer, Scanlon was the head coach
at Kenyon College (Gambier, Ohio) for three and a
half years. Scanlon also served as an assistant coach
at Macalaster (her alma mater) from 1996-1998 and as a
graduate assistant at the University of New Hampshire from
1998-2000.
During her playing days at Macalester, Scanlon was a
three-time All-American and two-time conference player of the year
for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). She
was inducted into the Macalaster College Athletic Hall of Fame.
Scanlon holds a United States Soccer Federation
(USSF) “B” license and has experience coaching
competitive club soccer and in the Olympic Development Program. She
is a member of both the NSCAA and the USSF, and has served on
the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer committee, including acting as
the chair of the West Region and Great Lakes Regions.
Scanlon graduated from Macalester College (St. Paul, MN) in 1995
with a degree in History, and then earned her M.S. in Kiniseology
from the University of New Hampshire, with a sport psychology
emphasis.
An associate professor of physical education in addition to her
coaching duties, Scanlon earned the Claremont Colleges Lavender
Graduation Outstanding Faculty/Staff Award. She currently
lives in Pomona with her partner, Liz, and their 3-year-old
daughter Annika.
