Sagehens Take 13-Point Lead In First Half Of Occidental Meet
Los Angeles, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Track and Field team holds a 63-50 lead over Occidental after the first day of competition in its third annual Dual Meet.
The meet will conclude next weekend with the Distance Carnival (800, 1500, 5000 and steeplechase).
Freshman Ellen Yamasaki (Salinas, Calif. - pictured) helped the Sagehens pick up some valuable points in the long jump (14' 6") and the triple jump (32' 7 3/4"). Alex Oxborough-Yankus also had a throw of 91' 11" in the discus and a 114' 1" in the hammer to take first in those events, and was second in the shot put with a 26' 7" throw. Erin Delaria was first in the pole vault with a 9' 1" vault.
Katie Barton continued her strong hurdling seasaon by winning the 400 in a time of 1:08.94, although she just missed making it two-for-two by coming in second in the 100 with a 16.35, just .08 in second place behind Lauren Johnson of Occidental.
Even with All-American Annie Lydens not running, the Sagehens performed well in the 1500 meters as Claire Brickson (4:55.91) and Roxanne Cook (4:56.60) finished 1-2 in that event.
The meet will conclude next weekend before an official champion is declared.
