Claremont, Calif. - The Women's Water Polo team will host two matches on Wednesday evening - against La Verne at 5 p.m. and Azusa Pacific at 7 p.m. - to start off a busy week of athletics as the NCAA holds its inaugural "Division III Week".
Division III Week was created by the NCAA to help celebrate the unique Division III student-athlete experience, which offers a highly competitive athletics environment, a commitment to academic excellence and time to pursue other interests.
The NCAA has created a Facebook page for Division III athletics and for every new fan who likes the page this week, the national office will donate $1 to Special Olympics (up to $5,000). The link is here, so please like the page and support a worthy cause:
Women's Water Polo is a fitting team to kick off the week's festivities, as the Sagehens are currently ranked No. 1 in Division III, after knocking off previously top-ranked Occidental in overtime on March 31. Women's Water Polo will also play another home match on Saturday against Cal Lutheran, which is currently tied with the Sagehens for first place in the SCIAC heading into the week.
A complete list of home events for Pomona-Pitzer athletics this weekend is below (as well as a big tennis doubleheader up Sixth Street at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, which joins Pomona-Pitzer in one of Division III's unique rivalries). Come out and support the Sagehens and help celebrate the unique Division III experience:
