Hopkins Named To NCAA All-Tournament Team, Academic All-District Team
Claremont, Calif. - Senior Perri Hopkins (Agoura, Calif.) was selected to the NCAA All-Tournament second team, it was announced at the conclusion of the NCAA Championships this weekend at San Diego State University.
In addition, Hopkins was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 team, and will be eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced in June.
The honors cap off a terrific career for Hopkins, who was an All-America selection a year ago, and a team captain and first-team All-SCIAC selection this year. She helped the Sagehens to a pair of SCIAC Championships and NCAA Tournament berths in her career, including a 10-0 record in conference this past spring.
Hopkins scored a goal in Pomona-Pitzer's opening round 17-5 loss to top-ranked Stanford, as the Sagehens improved off their performance from two years ago against Stanford (a 23-3 loss). In fact, Pomona-Pitzer scored more goals off Stanford than any other team in the NCAA Tournament this year, as the Cardinal went on to defeat UC Irvine 13-3 and USC 6-4 in the championship game.
Hopkins' leadership was crucial in helping Pomona-Pitzer to a 10-0 conference record this year, as five of the wins against SCIAC teams came in overtime, including sudden-death wins to cap off the regular season (11-10 over Whittier) and win the SCIAC Championship match (12-11 over Redlands). Hopkins had the game-winner in the Whittier match, and also gave the Sagehens their first lead late in the first overtime of the Redlands match.
Pictured is the last goal of Hopkins' career, a skip shot against Iona in the third quarter of the final game of the NCAA Tournament, when she helped Pomona-Pitzer rally from three two-goal deficits to force overtime before falling 12-8.
