In the first on-campus meet since 1990, Pomona-Pitzer's men's and women's cross country teams will host the West Region Preview Meet on Saturday, Oct. 3. The meet will feature most SCIAC teams, plus Chapman, UC Santa Cruz, as well as 'B' teams from Cal Poly Pomona and UC Irvine. Meet entries have closed.
The course starts on the lower soccer field and the loops through the Wash area multiple times before finishing on the blue Strehle Track. The men's 8000m (5 mile) race begins at 7:30am, while the women's 6000m (3.7 mile) race begins at 8:15. The early start time is needed to finish before the men's soccer game that same morning against Redlands.
"We're looking forward to hosting both meet s this fall," said Head Women's Coach Kirk Reynolds. "Our last meet on campus was a small conference four-way meet in 1990, so we're excited to have some home competitions again. I know our own teams are very excited, and we are looking forward to providing a quality competition and a quality venue for visiting teams."
The race gives teams a chance to preview course for the Nov. 14 Division III West Region Championships, hosted by Pomona-Pitzer, which will determine berths to the National Championships a week later at Highland Golf Course in Cleveland, OH.
